What is MySigns?

Who can create an account?

To create a MySigns account you must be a 'person responsible' for someone with intellectual disability.

The 'person responsible' has the authority to make decisions about medical treatment on behalf of a person who lacks capacity to make decisions themselves.

Invite others to contribute

Once you've set up an account, you can invite others to contribute and monitor the profile of the person you are supporting.

You can invite:

Clinicians

For example, GPs, mental health or allied health professionals, etc

Carer

For example, professional carers, family members or friends

How do I get started?

  1. 1

Speak to the person you support about using MySigns and involve them in the decision to begin using it

See this Easy Read guide on MySigns to help facilitate your conversation with the person you support.

  2. 2

Create your account and register the profile information of the person you support

Creating your account and registering the person you support's profile is easy and should only take a few minutes

  3. 3

Invite others to contribute and monitor the person you support

Invite others who provide support to contribute what they have observed, and clinicians to view what has been shared.

Created by experts

MySigns is developed by UNSW Sydney's Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN), with funding from NSW Health.

3DN champions the right of people with intellectual disability to the same level of health and mental health care as the rest of the population.

MySigns is a tool that can be used to support the mental health assessment of people with intellectual disability and significant communication difficulties.
